METROFOOD.BE is the Belgian node of the EU research infrastructure METROFOOD-RI for promotion of metrology in food and nutrition.
It comprises of Sciensano, the Belgian federal institute for public health, which is also the representative of the national node of METROFOOD-RI. Sciensano focuses on the identification and characterization of hazards and risks to public health. The department for Chemical and Physical Health Risks hosts official control laboratories for medicines and food safety national reference laboratories for the analysis of pesticides, environmental- and processing contaminants, food contact materials, nanomaterials and trace elements.
METROFOOD.BE provides services to a wide range of users, researchers, academics, government supervisors, food retailers, consumers and the general public. These end users can be public and private research laboratories and research groups active in diverse scientific fields (metrology, analytical chemistry, food analysis, food quality and safety and risk analysis); food companies; institutions and services (education, research, food distribution, input supplies).
