METROFOOD.BE was represented at the IMEKOFOODS 2025 conference, where Joris van Loco presented “Strengthening Belgium’s role in European food quality and safety: The METROFOOD.BE initiative.”

The presentation introduced the METROFOOD-BE initiative and highlighted how Belgium, through its research infrastructure, is contributing to food safety, circular economy, and sustainable packaging solutions. Our two Belgian use cases, 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗬𝗣𝗔𝗣 and 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲-𝗭𝗻𝗢-𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸, were showcased as concrete examples of how METROFOOD-BE enables metrology-driven research and innovation. Being present at IMEKOFOODs offered METROFOOD-BE an excellent opportunity to:

• Showcase Belgium’s role in advancing food quality and safety within Europe.
• Exchange knowledge and best practices with leading experts in food metrology.
• Strengthen collaborations within the international research community.
• Promote open access to infrastructure and services, ensuring reproducible science that supports innovation and policy development.

The next IMEKOFOODS conference will take place in Rome, October 2026, with a central focus on food authenticity, traceability, and food fraud.
